IDA+S International Women’s Day Series: Tahyna Tozzi MacManus

At IDA+S, we believe in celebrating women who inspire, challenge, and redefine what it means to be strong. For our International Women's Day series, we’re sitting down with women who are breaking barriers in their industries and making an impact.

First up: Tahyna Tozzi MacManus—mother, filmmaker, and storyteller.

"99.9% of life has been setbacks. Failures, mistakes… but that’s what made me who I am."

Born in Australia, Tahyna’s journey began in front of the camera, starring in films and television series. But her passion led her behind the scenes, where she could bring raw, honest stories to life through filmmaking. She is the Director & Producer at Neon Jane Productions and co-founder of the Australian Women’s Film Festival, an initiative dedicated to celebrating and elevating female voices in the industry. "I don’t know if my story is that unique. I think everyone has a unique story to tell. That’s why I’m a filmmaker. That’s why I’m fascinated by people. People in general are fascinating."

Her career has been shaped by resilience—something she credits not to successes, but to struggles. "I’ve always been told, ‘God, you are so strong. You are so resilient.’ But I credit all my mistakes and setbacks for shaping who I am more than the good moments," she shares. In 2020, she directed Misunderstandings of Miscarriage, a powerful documentary exploring the emotional impact of pregnancy loss, a subject deeply personal to her. Through her work, she has given a voice to women whose stories often go unheard.

Her advice for any woman facing hardship? "There’s always another option."

"International Women’s Day is about collective voices."

For Tahyna, International Women’s Day isn’t just about celebrating women—it’s about amplifying those who don’t always have the platform to be heard. "If we are in a position where we are able to safely campaign for equality and what women need in the world, then that’s what IWD means to me."

As a woman, a creative, and a mother, Tahyna embodies resilience, passion, and the drive to make a difference. Through storytelling and advocacy, she continues to break barriers and challenge conversations, proving that strength is not just about overcoming obstacles—it’s about sharing them, so no woman feels alone in her journey.
